Fairbanks Ridge Family Apartments

Environmentally and Economically Sustainable Affordable Housing

Borrego Solar has completed a 184 kW photovoltaic system for Fairbanks Ridge Family Apartments, a 204–unit affordable housing development in the Black Mountain Ranch community of San Diego, California. Developed by Chelsea Investment Corporation, Fairbanks Ridge is its most recent solar project, and its third installation with Borrego Solar.

Chelsea Investment Corp. builds, owns and operates affordable housing projects, offering a 50–year lease to tenants. Fairbanks Ridge features 2– and 3–bedroom apartments and numerous amenities, including a pool, tot lots, a half basketball court and a computer room. Solar power contributes to Chelsea’s goal of providing reduced–rate housing that is both economically and environmentally sustainable.

The system consists of 1080 Sharp 170 Watt solar panels, mounted on 20 carports throughout the development The Fairbanks Ridge Family Apartments system will produce roughly 20,800 kilowatt–hours of electricity per month, with an annual savings of approximately $37,500: enough energy to power approximately 50 single family homes.

According to John Koerber of Chelsea Investment Corporation, “Working with Borrego Solar has been a great experience. We’ve done several projects with them and they’ve always delivered on time and on budget.”

We are pleased to add this environmentally and economically sustainable PV installation to our portfolio.
