San Francisco's Solar Initiative

The San Francisco Solar Energy Incentive program is the nation's largest municipal solar program to date. Borrego Solar, with our extensive experience in the city is uniquely positioned to help residents and businesses take advantage of this historic program.

This program will utilize $3 million of funding available immediately to residential and commercial property owners, with amended legislation to complement the long-term program by allocating an additional $1.5 million in funding for low-income residents and non-profits to install solar.

In the coming months, city property owners and tenants will be able to go solar with minimal upfront costs by taking advantage of an additional $6,000 per meter for residential properties and up to $10,000 per meter for commercial spaces.

Here is a sample financial breakdown of an average 3.4 kW DC San Francisco single family home with a $200 average monthly electricity bill*

$25,000 Gross cost (all inclusive)

-$2,000 Federal Investment Tax Credit

-$5,000 California Solar Initiative rebate

-$6,000 from San Francisco Solar Initiative

Net cost is $12,000

By eliminating 70% of their annual electricity bill, these homeowners are saving approximately $1,650 annually.

That's a 14% ROI in year one after taxes, which would be comparable to getting approximately 20% ROI from a stock market investment before taxes and without the risk!

*Figures based on the best available CSI rebate of $1.90 per watt as of 6/18/08 according to http://www.gosolarcalifornia.org and a variety of specific conditions that will vary from site to site.
