We’re proud to highlight the fact that in our first few years of entering the New York solar market we’ve secured the leading market share among commercial installers, according to Greentech Media Research’s (GTM) U.S. PV Leaderboard report. GTM’s report also identified Borrego Solar as the third largest commercial installer nationwide with 5.5 percent of the segment’s total market share.
Over the course of 2015, GTM reported Borrego Solar completed 10.4 megawatts (MW) of solar for New York businesses and public sector customers—nearly twice the second leading installer. In addition to our commercial sector installations, Borrego Solar also has completed or is currently building 23 MW of utility-scale installations on Long Island. The company has continued to grow its New York team since entering the market to better serve customers and expand operations.
In 2015, Borrego Solar’s completed projects in New York include:
- Houghton College—2.6 MW on the college’s campus
- Tompkins Cortland Community College—2.5 MW on the college’s campus
- Gore Mountain Ski Resort—5.3 MW on un-used farm land
- Oneida County—5 MW across two projects
Borrego Solar additionally has 14 MW under construction, including 8 MW for the Olympic Regional Development Authority for Gore Mountain and Whiteface Mountain ski resorts; and a 2.9 MW array for Ithaca College.
For 2015, New York is was ranked fifth nationally in terms of installed solar capacity and fourth largest for solar jobs. In the past several years, New York’s lawmakers and regulators have rolled out incentive programs and policies that put solar within reach for nearly any entity. Specifically, the New York Public Service Commission announced a 10-year $1 billion commitment to developing a self-sustaining solar market in the state, which will result in 3,000 MW of capacity by 2022.
