Expected to save SDCOE $282,000 annually and generate enough power to meet around 60% of the facility’s electricity demand

San Diego County Office of Education

Borrego Solar designed and built a 1-megawatt solar carport system at the San Diego County Office of Education’s (SDCOE) main campus on Linda Vista Drive. The solar shade structure is expected to save SDCOE $282,000 each year and provide enough energy to meet approximately 60 percent of the facility’s electricity demand.

The solar system will offset approximately 1,300 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents annually, which is the same amount as removing nearly 280 cars from the road for a year.

The San Diego County Office of Education provides a variety of services for the 42 school districts and five community college districts in the county. They support more than 750 schools and 500,000 students. In addition, the County Office provides regional services for surrounding counties in many areas ranging from district and school improvement to budget approval and monitoring.

Borrego Solar and SDCOE are also planning for a 106-kilowatt solar project at Cuyamaca Outdoor School this summer, and a 256 –kilowatt system at the South Regional Education Center in National City.
