Mr. Chris Otness is a Project Developer for Borrego Solar focused on developing turn-key solar solutions for commercial and industrial businesses throughout California. As a PV Project Developer, Chris’ primary responsibility is to educate clients on the various elements necessary to consider when making an investment in a solar energy solution. From conducting the initial site feasibility to working with Borrego Solar’s rate analysts on the assessment of historical energy consumption; his job is to understand the latest technology trends, site limitations, and available incentives in order to model the optimal custom PV solution to meet his customer’s economic needs. Prior to joining the Borrego Solar team, Chris spent three years working for the U.S. Department of Energy Loan Program, which was responsible for over $30 billion in loans and loan guarantees to utility-scale renewable energy projects. Chris earned his BA in Economics from the University of Massachusetts and his MBA from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. While in business school, Chris worked at General Electric Renewables where he focused primarily on evaluating the U.S. commercial and industrial solar market. In 2014, he was appointed to the UNC Renewable Energy Special Projects Committee and was responsible for evaluating university-wide solar options.
