Mr. Tarn Yates is an Applications Engineer for Borrego Solar, who works out of the company’s regional headquarters in Northern California. As an Applications Engineer, Tarn’s focus is on producing accurate and optimized proposals that provide the best value and ROI for Borrego Solar’s corporate and government customers on the West Coast. Prior to working for Borrego Solar, Tarn was involved in pre-sales design for SPG Solar and worked on over 300 solar energy projects. Tarn was first introduced to solar in 1995 when he managed and maintained the operation of an off-grid solar installation at a wilderness camp in the southern Sierra Mountains. Later he graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz with a BS in Physics where he completed his senior thesis work on solar cells in concentrating systems and their high temperature limitations. He has a NABCEP certification and is a California Certified Journeyman Electrician. Tarn co-authored Production Modeling for Grid-Tied PV Systems with Bradley Hibberd that appeared in SolarPro’s April 2010 issue. He also authored an article for SolarPro magazine on the topic of utility interconnections focused on governing codes and techniques used.
